CONNECT is our annual event to celebrate the connections between Business, the Local Economy and our Community. Keene and the Monadnock Region are rich in stories about community wealth builders. Please join us for an evening of food, fun, storytelling and engaging conversation about building community wealth in the region!
What is community wealth? Let’s use a farming metaphor, it is easy to deplete the soil and it is easy to build it up. If nothing is done to enrich the soil and a farmer simply harvests year after year, the soil becomes depleted and returns diminish over time. Enrich the soil, and yields will actually increase over time. Communities are no different. When residents consistently take actions that enrich the “soil” of their community, the result is a thriving local economy and a vibrant, healthy, connected community: Community Wealth.
Community wealth varies in the same way that communities themselves vary. It includes things such as a culture of entrepreneurship and a diverse employment base; a clean environment; access to education, culture, and history; a growing “buy local” economy and sustainable local supplies of things like food and energy; strong health and wellness resources; engaged youth; a strong nonprofit community; access to broadband; volunteerism; and a spirit of collaboration and creativity.
Many businesses, organizations, and individuals in Keene and the Monadnock Region are actively engaged community wealth builders. In fact, we think we’re in the community wealth building vanguard nationally. We’ll be featuring some of their stories and exploring community wealth building ideas at this year’s CONNECT 2012 event.
The Event will begin at 5 p.m. with an hour and a half to network with others attending the event and to enjoy hors d’oeuvres provided by INN and OUT Hospitality, LLC. A cash bar is also available at the event.
